Litchfield National Park features numerous stunning waterfalls cascading from the sandstone plateau of the Tabletop Range. Swim in the falls, see the intriguing magnetic termite mounds, pitch a tent, explore on foot or drive to the more remote corners of the park. Beautiful walks leave from most popular sites. Retreat from the heat of the day into shady monsoon forest in the ancient gorges created over thousands of years. It is a haven for hundreds of native bird species, and the plateau supports a rich range of woodland flora. Look for the impressive but harmless Nephila spider with its strong, sticky web strung between the trees. Birdwatchers can see Black Kites and other birds of prey wheeling overhead, and seek out Yellow Orioles, Figbirds, Koel, Spangled Drongos, Dollarbirds and the Rainbow Bee-eater in the sheltered areas close to waterfalls. Bring a picnic and find a shady spot at Florence Falls, Tabletop Swamp, Greenant Creek, Wangi Falls and Walker Creek. Cool off in one of the many pleasant waterholes, including Wangi, Surprise Creek, Florence, and Tjaynera falls and Buley Rockhole. Some swimming areas such as Wangi Falls are closed for swimming after heavy rain but kiosk and picnic facilities remain open.
